Konbini Kinyoubi: Baschee from Lawson

Konbini Kinyoubi: Baschee from Lawson

Welcome to Konbini Kinyoubi, where every Friday (Kinyoubi) we visit our local convenience store (Konbini) and buy something delicious.

This week, we visited Lawson, the undisputed king of the konbinis, and got one of our favorite treats.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Baschee.

Hello, old friend.

Hello, old friend.

A specialty item from the “fancy dessert” section of the store, Baschee bills itself as “Neither rare nor baked cheesecake,” which is strange because I thought those were the only two kinds of cheesecake. Witchcraft!

But Baschee isn’t a normal cheesecake - that is to say, it doesn’t taste like a small cheesecake. It tastes like a large, full-sized cheesecake that has been smushed down into a compact form, giving you all the flavor of an entire cheesecake in a tiny package.

BOW DOWN TO IT.

BOW DOWN TO IT.

It’s creamy and soft inside, while the top isn’t chewy or thick. There are no bad spots on the Baschee. It is eternal, all-knowing, and its flavor hits harder than Drederick Tatum.

Back in 2018, when some friends were visiting us in Japan for our wedding reception, one of the things I made sure to tell them before they arrived was that they MUST try a Baschee. It’s up there in the top tier of konbini foods. 15/10 all day long. I can’t imagine a human who doesn’t want to stuff these in their face until they die from cheese poisoning.

But since we’re giant pigs, we couldn’t just stop at one treat this week. While getting our beloved Baschee, we stumbled upon a new kind of Black Thunder!

She needs premium, dude!

She needs premium, dude!

This is the “Premium moisture” variety, the ultimate in creaminess. It retains the standard chocolate taste of the Black Thunder, but without the crunchy inside, replacing it with a cake-like texture, and man, they weren’t kidding about it being moist.

Eat it in the dark where no one can see you.

We were both amazed by how much chocolate taste was packed into this thing. It was like a big slice of chocolate cake, but also a candy bar. One was plenty for both of us. Nothing will ever out-rank the original BT in my mind, but this guy might be the best of the specialty variety. 15/10.

So that’s our haul for this week. Go out and get yourself a Baschee right now, and throw in a Black Thunder as an extra treat. We’ll leave you with one more picture of our unsuspecting victim:

He has no idea what’s about to happen to him.
