There’s been a lot of talk in America lately about certain children’s books and what is and is not appropriate for kids to be reading. I’d like to share with you a beloved Japanese children’s character that everyone can enjoy, someone we can all get behind.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet Oshiri Tantei.
O-shiri, you’re so fine, you’re so fine, you blow my mind, Oshiri! Oshiri!
Translated directly, Oshiri Tantei means “Butt Detective.” But he’s so much more than that.
You see, he’s a boy detective… whose face is a butt. His cheeks have graced a series of books, and he’s got his own Netflix show.
Oh, oh, oh, Oshiriiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!
It’s pretty easy to see why he’s so popular. I watched one episode without English subtitles, and not to brag, but I solved the mystery before Oshiri Tantei did. His sidekick is named Brown, and the chief of police is a Maltese. He loves sweet potatoes, and has an IQ of 1,104. He also, from time to time, farts in a bad guy’s face.
He’s winking at me.
There are a million products with Oshiri’s butt face on them, and why not? He’s helped a generation of kids discover the magic of reading. I recommend watching every episode of his show and also it’d be great if one of our readers could finance a big-budget Hollywood remake starring Daniel Kaluuya as Oshiri and Adam Driver as Brown. Saoirse Ronan can play the Maltese.
If you want to get a sense of how great Oshiri Tantei is, feast your eyes on this video. But I warn you: it is extremely catchy. Don’t blame me if it’s stuck in your head all day.
