One thing you should know about me is that I am a man of refined tastes. A thing you should know about my wife is that she likes potato chips. So, when walking through the grocery store, if I see something like the following, I’m gonna get it.

Hunter’s Hand Cooked Potato Chips. Did you get that? They cook these chips by hand. This isn’t some weird Tarantino factory where they’re cooking stuff with their feet. Look at how fancy this tin looks! These chips must cost a million dollars!

And it’s true. I paid one million dollars for these fancy potato chips. Had to mortgage a house to get them. This was further complicated by the fact that I did not possess a house at the time. I had to find a rich old broad, seduce her, grant her pleasure beyond her wildest dreams, marry her, corner her after one too many drinky-poos and get her to sign a new will while she was sloshed on brandy, discover her body after she fell off the roof several times in a freak accident, plan and attend the funeral, battle her heirs in court over the estate, gain control of the property, and then take out a mortgage with the help of our sponsor, Potato Mortgage, the country’s #3 potato chip-based mortgage company. All so I could taste these chips for you, dear reader.

Hunter’s is apparently from the United Arab Emirates, and makes only the finest potato chips with 100% sunflower oil. They’re gluten free, non-GMO, have no artificial preservatives, and are “suitable for vegan.” These were the black truffle flavor, and there was also a Genovese version. The seal was tight and the tin was very full. But the real question is: did they taste good?

We popped. Would we be able to stop??

We popped. Would we be able to stop??

The chips were small and rather thick, and held their shape well - not too many tiny shards in the tin. They were also very fresh-tasting - not a stale one in the bunch.

I really enjoyed the consistency and how they weren’t too greasy, but the black truffle thing… I don’t know. It was okay, but I found it to be a bit too strong. I generally enjoy plain potato chips, though sometimes I’ll go for something a little different. I think I would have liked these better without the fancy black truffle stuff, if they were just really good potato chips. Eriko might have agreed, but she was too busy devouring them as quickly as possible to prevent me from having any more.

Overall, we really liked them, though we enjoyed the consistency and grease level more than the fancy flavor. Are they worth spending three times as much as a normal bag of chips (more depending on where you live)? Probably not. But they’re definitely worth trying, and if you find that you like the black truffle flavor, you just might have a new favorite chip.
